Expansion Cork Joint – Type 3

Self expanding cork manufactured to expand according to the ASTM D1752 Type 3 specification and is manufactured from the bark of the cork oak tree and granulated to be compressed into blocks then cut into sizes to suit your requirements on site.

Cork vs other materials

Selecting the right material to apply to expansion joints is critical to ensure safety and durability in construction. Cork-based solutions, given the natural properties and benefits of this material, guarantee a sustainable, low maintenance and high technical performance response for buildings and large public works. Its high compressibility and resilience – make it the ideal material to withstand the swelling and shrinking movements of thermal variations or other factors. Very flexible, cork agglomerates have a resilience of almost 90% after compression at 50% of their initial thickness. These values are much higher than those shown by other fill types. Cork also meets all other technical requirements of expansion or movement joints. It has high durability without loss of features and without maintenance. It is a resilient material and resistant to water, oils and acids. In addition, cork solutions do not expand out of the joint, even under heavy traffic or high compression.
